Prima Lingua Latina is an introduction to Latin and a preparatory course for students who plan to continue taking Latin in the Upper School. Using much of the same vocabulary in the first 6 chapters of the Upper-School text, Lingua Latina, students will learn basic grammar, declensions, and Latin sayings. Students in this class will also be introduced to the geography of Rome, Roman culture and history, and Latin songs and prayers. This half-hour class is offered at three different levels: Level I, Level II (for those who have already completed Level I) and Level III (for those who have completed Level II).
The Prima Lingua Latina classes are not a prerequisite to Upper School Latin. While students will benefit greatly from taking the Prima Lingua Latina classes prior to Upper School Latin, most students begin our Upper School Latin classes without the benefit of the Prima Lingua Latina classes and have done outstanding in their Latin studies!
Grammar School students may enroll in the Virginia Junior Classical League with the payment of member fees of $5/student.
