Hi there,

LETTER FROM TEACHER for December 3 and December 10
As you may have heard, we have heard from several in our CCS community affected by Covid and today Bethel has told us we need to go online for this week as well as next due to Covid cases in their community.
I’m disappointed, as I’m sure many of you are, but it’s a real blessing that we have been able to have uninterrupted in-person classes weekly now since September — and we owe much gratitude to Bethel as well as to our community’s efforts to make that happen. Wishing everyone the best of health and the blessings of this holy season!
Classes will take place ONLINE December 3rd.
Reminders: all homework will be submitted online no later than Wednesday at 10 p.m. Thank you for your efforts to make that deadline!
December 3 (ONLINE) handouts (you should already have these from November 12th)
LETTER FROM TEACHER, for weeks October 29 and November 5
Announcing Office Hours! In an attempt to both provide time for questions and help, as well as to focus that time to allow me to arrange my schedule, I’m establishing Office Hours each Monday, 2 - 4p.m. Please prioritize using that time to ask questions by email or phone.
Important instructions for submitting homework:
In order to lessen confusion from this point on, unless stated otherwise, all homework will be submitted online no later than Wednesday at 10 p.m. Thank you for your efforts to make that deadline!
October 29 (in person at Bethel) handouts
Class instructions:
We’ll be debating from 2:00 - 3:30. Be ready to go — no time will be given in class for coordination.
Final instructions: You and your team need to figure out the order for presentation of ideas. Remember that I said the easiest way to do that is to proceed in the order the author does. So well before class begins, you should have a clear idea of the order of presentations as they pertain to each of the three proposed questions. There will be no time in class to clarify that. The presentations need to be crisp and tight, with first one side then the other presenting ideas. If you do that i an efficient way, you should have a brief period at the end (perhaps 3-4 minutes per side) to make final rebuttal arguments and summations. Those who particularly enjoy argumentation can speak again at that time. There’s not much time overall, so be organized before class.
A student about to speak will first give his/her full name and the judges will assign points for the following rubric: 1) a clearly expressed assertion = 1 point 2) a concise and relevant textual reference read aloud = 1 point 3) an explanation of how that develops the team’s stance on the Proposed = 1 point A rebuttal will have the same rubric.
November 5 (online) handouts
Please have your papers in the following order for class:
Nota bene: Next week, November 12th, you’ll be debating The Prince from 2:00 - 3:30. Be ready with your teams for that exciting venture! We’ll be going over the thesis on natural rights assignment on November 12th.

__________________________________________ LETTER FROM TEACHER:
Dear Omnibus V families and students,
By now you know that we will be meeting in person at Bethel Lutheran Church every other week and online at the same time the alternating weeks. I have revised the class syllabus to clearly reflect that arrangement for the first semester. Please discard the previously sent syllabus. If you’ll look carefully at our schedule for 2020, we will be meeting 2/3 of our classes in person so long as conditions don’t change for the worse. As we said at the Back to School meeting, Classical Enrichment will not be attempted for the first semester as we want to focus all our efforts on
If you would like me to include your student’s email on my address list, please send that to me with a clear subject heading: ex. Jane Smith’s email for Omni II
If you become aware that you are NOT receiving my emails, after alerting me you can check the fallclass tab (soon to be established in lieu of the summer tab)on the CCS website as I will be posting these emails there every two weeks. More information will be forthcoming about that tab.
This is the first of what will be regular biweekly communications regarding the class. You should anticipate receiving them the Wednesday before an in-person class. They will contain handouts and instructions for the next two weeks. I’ll also include upcoming deadlines for major assignments.
I’m leaving today for a long-awaited beach holiday, so I won’t be able to respond via email. If you have any questions or concerns, please send them via email (I can receive) and I’ll try to get you an answer.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 17th!
Cindy Leahy
